After graduating from Arkansas State University in 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Carl Dyer became a patrol officer with the Germantown Police Department in Germantown, TN. During his 10 years there he ran and lifted weights every day after his shift in order to stay in shape for the challenges he faced as a Law Enforcement Officer. While he was with the Germantown Police Department he served as a Crisis Intervention Officer, Crime Scene Officer, Field Training Officer, SWAT operator and sniper. It was during his time with SWAT that he was exposed to Crossfit from a member of the Shelby County SWAT team. Carl would do Crossfit workouts in the basement gym of the police department to prepare him for the challenges he might encounter as a SWAT operator. He continued using the Crossfit methodology when he moved to Jonesboro, AR in 2008 and joined the Jonesboro Police Department in. Carl is the first member of the Department to successfully pass the department’s Physical Training Incentive program.
In 2009 he became a full time Law Enforcement Training Academy Instructor at Black River Technical College. Carl is a Crossfit Level 1 trainer and uses the Crossfit methodology during physical training with the academy recruits. He is the Defensive Tactics instructor at the Academy and is certified in Law Enforcement Krav Maga. Carl has attended the Gracie Survival Tactics week long course and incorporates it with the physical training. Carl believes hard physical training and proper nutrition are essential for everyone but especially for Law Enforcement officers.
